Brähler ICS

World record and software enhancement

Brähler recently further optimized the software of its CDSVAN conference system and in addition netted a record-setting order.

Brähler ICS in Königswinter/ Germany has been active for decades as international supplier of reliable conference technology, and the company just recently set a new world record; Brähler managed to win an order for the world’s largest wireless discussion system for a project in Qatar: the new DIGIMIC- System with 400 wireless intercom stations in one room.

Certainly one of the reasons for Brähler’s international success is that the company is consistently optimizing its proven products. The software for the digital CDSVAN conference system, for instance, was just recently further enhanced: in addition to optimization of the DSP-controlled elements for audio processing, the majority of enhancements were made to the CDS-Console module for steering and administration of the system and the conference itself:

Various functions of the graphical user interface, the geographic depiction and the associated editor were expanded and simplified. In factual terms, the system now features more flexibility for design of microphone keys as well as positioning of the keys on the screen. Photos and other speaker information can now be displayed on the screen or in the conference hall. In addition, poll results may now also be presented in geographic mode (seating arrangement).

A new recording module allows users to place markers in interpreting recordings for fast and convenient backtracking for post-event editing and processing. This applies to every single interpreting channel, recordings may be saved in *.mp3 or *.wav format. As before, recordings may be saved to or archived in various storage media: local fixed disks, alternative drives or in local networks.

Additional functions have also been added to speakingtime modules. There’s a choice between two time settings – the global / individual speaking time and the total time. A flexible advance warning time is another new another feature: it may be set to emit an acoustical warning shortly before speaking time expires and/or to send the chairperson a system notification about the nearing end of a particular delegate’s speaking time.

Logging of microphone activities has also been improved. The delegates may use their microphone keys to register their requests to speak, which are added to a list previously opened or activated by the chairperson. The chairperson may then choose either to directly admit the request to speak or to proceed chronologically on the basis of the waiting list. The delegate database with the name of the delegates and further particulars such as party affiliation, company, country or region as well as photos will certainly be a helpful tool here.

And last but not least, Brähler has revised and further sophisticated the interpreter module. Its new “takeovermode“ now enables the chief interpreter to determine if the assigned interpreters relieve their colleagues in on-going operations (active takeover) or after they have finished their interpreting work (passive takeover).
