Profs and pros gather again in Munich

Interdisciplinary exchange

One of the most important fixtures on Munich’s international convention scene took place for the 22nd time when, on July 19, Munich Tourist Office and its partners in the Munich Congress Alliance e.V.(MCA) hosted the traditional “Prof-Treff”.

Some 100 Munich-based professors, scientists and academics from Munich’s universities, institutes and research facilities accepted the invitation to an evening in the royal residence Munich Residenz mottoed “Raise the curtain on Bel Canto”. Cocktails were served in the Grottehof courtyard; afterwards the curtain was raised in the Cuvilliés Theatre on arias by Mozart. From his royal box His Royal Highness King Ludwig II followed the action on stage. In his lifetime the monarch used the cosy Rococo theatre for private performances of Wagner’s operas.

The theatre, whose carved and gilded interior was removed to a place of safety during the war, was subsequently rebuilt in a different part of the residence. Prof. Dr. Ing. Dr. h.c. Otto Meitinger, who was responsible for the reconstruction at the time in his capacity as Master of Works, was also among the guests.

Since Director of Tourism Dr. Gabriele Weishäupl and the partners from Munich’s meetings industry established the professorial meeting it has evolved into a highly regarded interdisciplinary communication platform for senior figures from medicine, research and engineering and meetings industry players. The common aim is to attract conventions and conferences to Munich, for which it is vital that all the parties involved work together. The Prof-Treff has given rise to many important congresses.
