Macau

Hotel construction continues to boom

The COTAI Strip, reclaimed land between the two outlying islands Coloane and Taipa, continues to develop into the modern centre of Macau.

Already, the casino halls there, the shopping malls and the shows in the mega resorts City of Dreams, Galaxy Macau and Venetian Macao are exerting their pull on visitors. And now further hotels are being built. Hilton Worldwide and Las Vegas Sands are opening a 636-room Conrad Hotel in the first quarter of 2012 with a selection of restaurants, fitness and spa sections and shopping arcades. Starwood Hotels & Resorts is preparing a presence on Cotai Strip with a Sheraton.

Word from Starwood Deutschland has it that two buildings featuring more than 3,900 guestrooms ranging in size from 42 to 208 square metres will make it the biggest property of the Sheraton brand and, indeed, the Starwood group’s biggest hotel worldwide. The complex further comprises banquet rooms extending over 9,385 square metres in all, a sprawling 12,302 square metre pool landscape and extensive spa and wellness facilities. The Sky Tower is scheduled to open in September 2012, followed in March 2013 by the second tower, Earth.
