Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Inauguration of Berlin's new airport postponed

The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport will be inaugurated later than originally scheduled. The airport operators arrived at this decision in view of the developments in the past days. Project managers had previously made every effort to implement the required safety measures in time for the planned grand opening of the airport on June 3 of this year.

At several crisis meetings over the week-end, project managers came to realize that they were not going to be able to have safety equipment and systems installed and officially approved in time to meet inauguration deadlines. In view of potential safety deficits, the airport operator had to pull the emergency brake only 27 days before the scheduled opening ceremonies. Keeping within schedules to have work on the airport completed by June 3 of this year had become a race against time.

There are currently more than 7,000 men and women working atEurope's largest airport construction site. The Open-House Days scheduled on May 12 and 13 will not be rescheduled due to postponement of the official opening day.
