Gamescom advances to next level green

The games industry is colourful, and it is certainly green. And it goes without saying that Koelnmesse is, too. The aim of Gamescom organisers Game, the Association of the German Games Industry, and Koelnmesse: to lead the way in climate protection with Gamescom, the largest games event in the world, and win over even more people and companies, trade fairs and event organisers to concrete measures and climate protection concepts.

Gamescom 2022, which takes place from August 24 to 28, 2022 in Cologne, is therefore intended to be the most climate-friendly edition ever to be celebrated. For example, the core event with all areas for which Koelnmesse and the Game Association are responsible will be made climate friendly by offsetting in cooperation with ClimatePartner. This means that all emissions from these areas will be calculated on the basis of the internationally recognised "Greenhouse Gas Protocol" standard and fully offset by supporting certified climate protection projects.
„Gamescom is more climate-friendly than ever before.“
Felix Falk, managing director, Game
Exhibitors can make a voluntary contribution to climate protection to offset their CO2 consumption. In cooperation with ClimatePartner, they can make climate protection contributions to support selected climate protection projects. Visitors can also be part of the game: They can purchase a green ticket and/or make a voluntary climate protection contribution. The proceeds will benefit the sustainability project Gamescom Forest started in 2020 near Bayreuth, Germany. Together with project partner Treemer, a climate-stable mixed deciduous forest is being planted. With contributions from the community (with donations starting from 1 euro) the forest has already grown to almost 20,000 square metres. The aim is to take Gamescom and the hills around Bayreuth to next level green.

Felix Falk, managing director of game – The German Games Industry Association: "Thanks to gamescom goes green, it is more climate-friendly than ever before."
