IMM Cologne ventures into new territory

Koelnmesse has moved its flagship show IMM Cologne to June 4 to 7, 2023. The new spring edition is the first step into the future for the international furniture show that normally runs in January. In response to the challenges of the ever-changing market, the show is reinventing itself with a new show concept.

“What’s more, the event in June gives our partners planning certainty,” explains Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse. Plus, Corona numbers tend to go down in summer. For Frese, the spring edition is synonymous with “a change in direction”. By taking this step, the IMM Cologne is looking to motivate and show that they are willing to venture into new territories and break away from old and well-trodden paths.

The new concept is based on the following key aspects: The international furniture and interiors fair will run for four days (from Sunday to Wednesday) and will focus on business. End consumers will have the chance to attend the fair on invitation. “We are also seeking to implement new participation formats in the market,” explained Matthias Pollmann, head of trade fair management at Koelnmesse. Kitchens will be another new topic at the IMM Spring Edition in 2023. There are also plans to incorporate the city of Cologne into the event programme more as a location.

Summer 2023 will also see improved coordination between industry and the different industry associations involved when it comes to the future scheduling for IMM Cologne and Livingkitchen. Moving forward, the furniture and interiors fair not only sees itself as a key business platform but will also be opening itself up as a catalyst for topics that are relevant to the community, both within the furniture and interiors industry and beyond.
